Suspension 101 Workshop: Set the Sag on Your Stoke!

Your mountain bike's suspension is the key to control, comfort, and speed, yet it remains one of the most misunderstood components. Our Suspension 101 Workshop is designed to eliminate the guesswork and turn those confusing knobs into performance tools.

This workshop is intentionally structured as an entry-level course, making it perfect for mountain bikers of all genders and experience levels who want to understand the magic and mechanics of how their suspension works.

When: Thursday, April 9, 2026
Time:‍ ‍ 6:00PM - 8:00PM
Where: Freewheel Cycle, 9 King St W, Dundas, ON L9H 1T9

🚲 Get Hands-On: Bring Your Bike!

For maximum value, you are welcome to bring your mountain bike (please ensure it is clean and in good working order). While the main workshop will use demo components for clear viewing, we will dedicate time at the end of the session to help participants apply the principles learned by setting sag on their own bike, with the guidance of StokedMTB instructors.

What We’ll Cover:

We break down the suspension system into easy-to-understand concepts, focusing on practical skills you can apply immediately to your own bike.

  • The Science of Suspension: We demystify the core components: the spring (air vs. coil) and the damper (oil flow control). Understand the basic function of both your fork and rear shock.

  • Sag Setting Secrets: Learn why sag is the single most important setting, how to measure it correctly, and how to adjust your air pressure or coil to achieve the perfect baseline for your riding.

  • Rebound and Compression Demystified: Let’s stop confusing the two. We explain the purpose of rebound and compression damping, when to use low-speed vs. high-speed settings, and how they directly affect traction and control.

  • Tuning for Trail Performance: Learn how minor adjustments can solve major problems (like feeling harsh or unpredictable). We cover basic tuning, troubleshooting, and the role of volume spacers.

  • Maintenance Essentials: Know when your suspension needs professional service and the simple things you can do at home to keep it performing optimally.

The StokedMTB Difference:

You will leave this workshop with more than just theory; you’ll gain the confidence to make informed decisions about your bike's setup. A properly tuned suspension means better grip in corners, a smoother ride over rough terrain, and less fatigue, allowing you to ride faster and longer.
